If you’re like the majority of us, you have likely heard or read about the importance of goal setting. This is because the process of goal setting is one of the most important elements of accomplishing any level of success in your life. To help you understand the importance of goal setting, I have listed some important reasons why you should create goals for your life.

  • Goals Give You Something to Work Towards – When you list your goals and the date by which you want to achieve them, you have something to work towards. Writing down your goals will help you recognize what you really want and what you need to do to accomplish it. Writing down your goals also helps to keep you motivated. When you can visualize and focus on what you want to achieve you are more likely to accomplish it.
  • Keep It Real – When you create your list of goals, it is important that you break them down into achievable portions. Rather than focus on the end result of your goal, it is recommended that you break down each step that you will need to take.       Doing this will ensure that you remain focused on the end result because you are accomplishing small steps towards the end result. If you have trouble remaining motivated this will help a great deal.
  • Increase Your Self-Esteem – When you set goals for yourself you are creating a vision of what you wish to achieve in your life. Each time that you reach a milestone in your journey, you are accomplishing something that you believed you couldn’t do. This is a great way to increase your faith in your ability and build your self-esteem. This increased self-esteem will help motivate you as you progress towards your ultimate goal.
  • Only You Are Accountable – If you do not write down your goals, you will likely find reasons why you cannot perform the necessary work needed to become successful. When you write down your goals, you have a clear outline of what needs to be done and what you need to do to achieve that goal. If you fail to put in the work, you are the one who is accountable for failing. When you do not reach your goals, it is because you have not done what is required to achieve them. You only have yourself to blame and not anyone else.

Feel free to share some of the goals you will achieve in 2015. Accountability is key and making your goals known is the first step to success.
